Solio Private Reserve

Solio Game Reserve is a private sanctuary dedicated to rhino conservation. It is located in the valley between the high slopes of Mount Kenya and the peaks of the Aberdare Mountains, north of Nairobi.

This reserve is also known as Solio Ranch as it was first a working cattle ranch, until part of it was converted into a wildlife sanctuary in 1973. The result: rhinos and other wildlife returned to the area. Today, it is a 49,000-acre ranch with 19,000 acres of wildlife sanctuary for black and white rhinos. Rhinos live here in harmony with other animals such as buffalo, zebra, giraffe, eland, antelope, waterbuck and warthog.

This reserve is a fascinating place to visit on day safaris, but it is even better if you stay overnight in a lodge.
