Located in the Peruvian Andes between 2,000 and 2,800 meters above sea level, it is made up of several rivers and small valleys; it has numerous archaeological monuments and indigenous villages. It was highly appreciated by the Incas due to its special geographical and climatic qualities. It was one of the main production points due to the richness of its lands and the place where the best corn grain in Peru is produced. In 2006 it was declared Cultural Heritage of the Nation.
