Bangkok - Chiang Rai

Breakfast and transfer to the airport for a local flight to Chiang Rai (*). Arrival and meeting with the guide who will accompany you during the tour of northern Thailand. Departure to Chui Fong, a beautiful tea plantation. In an environment surrounded by plantations on the slopes of small hills, you can enjoy various delicacies such as tea ice cream, tea cake (not included) and lunch (included) at a local restaurant nearby. Soon, we will pass by an opium museum before leaving for the Mae Chan district north of Chiang Rai. Then we will continue on foot, climbing the hills through narrow streets to visit a village of the Akha and Yao ethnic minorities. Our last destination of the day will be one of the Karen villages, where we will meet this famous mountain tribe, the largest ethnic minority group in Thailand. This tribe originally from Tibet migrated to what is now known as Myanmar about two thousand years ago. During the 18th century, political conflict and persecution are believed to have encouraged their mass migration to northern Thailand, where they are still without an official residential state today. The tribe is best known for its Kayan women, a subgroup of the Po (Red Karen) people whose necks are adorned with brass rings. Sometimes as young as five years old, the constant pressure pushes their collarbones and ribs downward, giving the impression of an extended neck, hence their nickname "giraffe women." After the visit, continue to your hotel in Chiang Rai.

(*) The client can choose to have this flight included in the package or purchase and book it on their own. The flight must arrive in Chiang Rai no later than 09:00 hrs.
