Its name, according to the most popular story, comes from a local gold prospector who exclaimed that the town was “worthy of Queen Victoria.” The city is known as a tourist destination and as the world's adventure capital, for the variety of activities it offers, from adventure sports and skiing. Bungy jumping, rafting, jetboating and river surfing are practiced in the waters of the river. It enjoys a great reputation as one of the country's great centers of cuisine and wine.
