Located in the center of Turkey, it has a protected area of 9,576 hectares. In 1985 it was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Its impressive geological formations, "lunar landscape", caves, underground cities, castles, valleys, curious hotels, sunrises and sunsets, and balloons coloring the sky, give this place absolute magic. The combination of a unique landscape in the world and the cave churches excavated centuries ago that still preserve their frescoes, make Cappadocia a first class tourist destination. The most visited places are concentrated in the triangle formed by Nevsehir, Avanos, Ürgüp and its surroundings. You can find archaeological remains of the Hittite civilization that dominated part of the interior of Anatolia 3,500 years ago. Hatusa, the capital, and the nearby Yazilikaya sanctuary are key destinations, as is Alacahöyük, with its monumental remains. One of the most attractive activities to do in Cappadocia is to discover the impressive landscape of the region from a hot air balloon. In 45 minutes of flight you can admire the beautiful scenery of the high peaks of volcanic rock, valleys and plateaus.
